Gender and Identity

08Dec06

Whilest growing up there were many different moments in life which influence and determnined my opinion on gender and sexuality not only just inthe media but also in society. My opinion on gender and its place in society was probably mostly influenced whilest I was at primary school. I attended a small, middle class, somerset village church school. One of the main things I remember from that school was that students were always dropped of and picked up from school by there mothers. On the rare occaision that a childs father did appear at school he was always dressed in a suit, and looked like he was either cumin or going to ‘the office’ to work.

The impreesion this made on me at a very young age was that it was the womens job to drop the kids of at school and attend to the house work etc, whereas the fathers role within the family was to be the primary bread winner.
